Israel Appeal
AM YISRAEL CHAI 5784
More than ever this year, the people of Israel need and deserve our support. We recognize that there are varying opinions on Israel’s current political situation. In this environment, our Israel Appeal for 5784 will focus not only on Israel Bonds, but also on several alternatives: leading organizations in the areas of Health Care/ First Responder Care, Hunger Relief, and Higher Education & Research. During the next few weeks of Chai Lights, we will introduce these organizations. It is our hope that we, the members of B’nai Tikvah, will generously support one or more of these organizations, in addition to, or in the place of, our traditional support of Israel Bonds. We encourage you to click on the links of the selected organizations to learn more about their inspiring and meaningful work.
This week, our focus is on two well-known leaders in the area of Health, Rescue, and First Responder Care. Hadassah Medical Center:Hadassah Hospital has for decades set the standard for health care in Israel, and continues its focus on care, research, and education.
Magen David Adom: Magen David Adom Israel’s representative to the Red Cross provides emergency care in Israel and in response to disasters around the world.
BONUS: But wait, there’s more. And this part won’t cost a dime. We also want to introduce you each week to one website that will help you deepen your connection with our Israeli cousins and particularly with their mode of communication: the Hebrew language.
Check out Duolingo and select the Hebrew course. It’s possible to complete a lesson in 10- 20 minutes. The site is well designed, fun – and free (they do have a subscription option, but it is completely unnecessary).

Wednesday, Aug. 30, 6-7:30 pm, onsite at B'nai Tikvah CJP is offering FREE Security Training for Greeters/Ushers/Event hosts/teachers/staff, etc - Creating a balance between an open and welcoming environment while maintaining safety and security is a challenge faced by many Jewish institutions.
Participants are exposed to physical and procedural security concepts and learn about the key role individuals can play to improve — or degrade — security at their institution. This training also provides those who welcome people to Jewish institutions with strategies and tools to foster a welcoming atmosphere while maintaining security.
Topics include situational awareness and behavioral recognition, emergency response plans, and communication. Simple role-playing and Q&A is used to reinforce the training.
If you plan to join us online for the High Holy Days, we have mahzors and other materials available for pickup so you can follow the service at home. Please come to the temple between the hours of 11 am - 2 pm on the following days:
