Merciful and Compassionate: The 13 Attributes, from Biblical Story to Compelling Ritual

At the heart of the Selichot service we find the so-called "13 attributes of mercy," which Moses heard in the divine voice following the sin of the golden calf. As preparation for our service, Rabbinic and Cantorial Intern Josh Schreiber will lead us in an encounter with the texts behind the ritual, both biblical and rabbinic, as well as later Hasidic commentaries. Together we will ask: how can Moses' mythical experience be relevant to us today? How can these ancient words serve as a tool to help us come to terms with our own shortcomings?
