Israel Appeal
ISRAEL APPEAL - AM YISRAEL CHAI 5784
This week, our Israel Appeal focus is on two outstanding universities in Israel, both known for research as well as higher education. Technion University:Technion is a world class scientific and technical university engaged in advanced research as well as education of the next generation of leaders in the technical fields.
Ben-Gurion University of the Negev: Ben-Gurion University of the Negev is a multidisciplinary university whose desert location supports particular focus on research and development on issues relating to sustainability and climate.
Bonus עִידוּד: Each week leading to the High Holy Days we are including a fun and free resource for increasing our Hebrew skills. This week we present Streetwise Hebrew, a podcast where you can learn Hebrew as it is actually spoken by Israelis. Each episode is about 10 minutes, and usually focuses on a שׁוֹרֶשׁ shoresh - or three letter root, and many of the variations built from the root. The podcast includes examples from Israeli news, television shows, ads, songs, and other sources. The free version of the podcast is narrated in English with introduction of the Hebrew content. For $5 per month, you can subscribe to a nearly 100% (except for explanation of a new word or concept) Hebrew mirror version. לְהִתְרָאוֹת! See you soon! Questions? ContactMarvin Wolfert
Social Action
On Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, the sound of the shofar awakens us, moving us to engage in the challenging process of Teshuvah/change or repentance, to help make the world a better place. During this season of change, we will once again be holding a High Holy Day Food Drive. Grocery bags will be distributed and we ask you to fill them with the groceries listed on the bags. This drive to help feed the hungry will take place between Rosh Hashannah and Yom Kippur. Half of the filled bags collected will be delivered to the Canton Food Pantry. The other half of the bags will go to the Randolph Food Pantry. We hope that this act of kindness will make your observance more meaningful, inspire you to take action, and usher in a sweet New Year for you and your family! L'Shana Tova! Phyl Hewson and Linda Leland, Social Action Co-Chairs
The online Koleinu has the correct 9/10 date, but the mailed one went to press before the date change.
