Rabbi Gordon's Lunch & Learn In Person and on Zoom Jewish Storytelling from Rebbe Nachman to the Coen Brothers
The Hasidic revolution involved a return from Judaism’s longtime focus on law (halacha) to the Jewish storytelling (aggadic) tradition. Hasidic stories range from fairy tales about lost princesses to stories of wonder-working rabbis. How did the medium impact the message? Why stories? How does this tradition continue in new forms today? Our class will conclude with watching the Coen brother’s film, "A Serious Man" (2009). All readings will be distributed in class and on line. Purim Yad Chessed provides individuals in need in our community with Kosher market and supermarket vouchers on Purim. These vouchers can be used at The Butcherie or Zayde’s Market or exchanged for other supermarket gift cards to fulfill the mitzvah of Matanot l’Evyonim (gifts for the poor, not to be confused with the mitzvah of Mishloach Manot).

Sharsheret Pink Day
Sharsheret Pink Day is a worldwide initiative, which is celebrated this year on February 9th. Individuals are asked to wear pink so as to generate conversations about breast cancer awareness. Israel Trip NEW Dates and Itinerary! The Israel Trip will now take place May 10 - 22, 2022 Check out the new itinerary and let the office know if you would like to be added to the trip.
We are renovating the sanctuary and we need your help! We need 200 chairs to replace the pews, which will be removed so we can install new carpet. The chairs have been ordered but we don’t want to have to use stabilization funds to pay for them.
You can “buy a chair” for $100. If you can buy one or more chairs, that would be greatly appreciated. If you cannot, we encourage each congregant to give what they can.
Remember, this sanctuary is for all of us. When the project is completed, it will be accessible to all. Having chairs instead of pews will make seating flexible and enable us to accommodate wheelchairs and walkers easily. In addition there will be a portable table for the Torah on the same level as the chairs so Torah readings will be accessible to every member.
The refurbishing project also includes the purchase of flooring for the sanctuary and carpeting for the sanctuary and bimah as well as repair of the bimah.
Thanks to those who have already contributed. Working together, we can provide a beautiful and accessible sanctuary for our current and future members. Composed of four segments, Tales of Chelm utilizes innovative performance techniques, such as puppets, masks, and clowning, to tell the stories of the people of Chelm— Eastern European villagers who considered themselves uniquely wise, and whose antics have been amusing us since the sixteenth century. Congregants commemorating a yahrzeit may wish to honor that event by leading some portion of the evening’s service. It might be as small as leading a prayer or could be leading all of Mincha or Ma’ariv.
