Shabbat Morning: Preparing the Holidays
This weekend of Selichot is a time of preparation for the New Year and for High Holiday services. During our teaching we will share stories of Teshuvah (of turning and returning). What special meaning does this Selichot season have during COVID? We were in the process of returning when a new wave of the pandemic struck. What resources do we have for moving forward?
Our Torah portion, Parshat Ki Tavo, begins with a passage familiar from the Passover Seder, “My ancestors were wandering Arameans.” Why do we begin our national story with a tale of homelessness? The parashah then continues with a list of core rules and the consequences for obedience and disobedience. What is our experience with reward and punishment? Do our actions seems to generate reactions in the world? What can we do to set ourselves up for the best possible outcomes during the year ahead?
Services will be on ZOOM and begin at 10:00 a.m. This Shabbat morning our davening, Torah and Haftorah readings will be led by members of the congregation.
We will not be screen sharing so if you want to follow the service from home, please arrange with the office to borrow a prayer book and humash, purchase a set on line, or download the siddur PDFs, availabe by clicking here.

Adult Ed Course with Reb Nikki Thursday, May 1st 8:00p to 9:00p What are we talking about when we talk about "Israel"?
The name "Israel" in Jewish texts can have many meanings: the person, the nation, the land, and the modern state. In this six-session class, we will be examining different uses of the name "Israel" by looking at sources ranging from the Torah to modern thinkers. Together, we will gain deeper understanding into its meaning by looking at the connections between and teasing apart the differences among the range of meanings of the word, and be able to discern what we are talking about when we talk about Israel.
