Because we’re in the second year of the triennial cycle, we begin the year by reading Chapter 2 of Genesis, a second version of the creation story. What does the story of leaving Eden teach us about starting over? Our Friday night service begins at 6:00 p.m. and concludes around 6:50 p.m. This week I will lead the davening and share a teaching.
Our service is designed to create a buffer between the work week and Shabbat rest. We aim to make the atmosphere like a family shabbat table complete with Candle Lighting, Blessing one another, Kiddush, and Motzei. Before and after the service we take time to check in with one another and share greetings (feel free to log on early). Our service has been abridged for ZOOM but includes familiar and new melodies, readings from the margins of the siddur, and some learning.
SHABBAT MORNING:
Birth as a Beginning
This week, we read Parshat Bereishit (Gen. 2:4-4:26), in which we learn about the births of Adam and Eve’s children and their descendants, each of whom are given special names, and we end the parsha by learning that this is also when God was first called by God’s name. What can we learn from this process of naming?
Our Shabbat morning service begins at 10 a.m. in our sanctuary, and you can join us in person or on Livestream. Sam Evans will read Torah and I will read Haftorah. Services will conclude around noon and will be followed by a kiddush luncheon sponsored by the Lazerus family in honor of their youngest daughter’s baby naming.

Join us on Saturday, October 21 for Parshat Noah, as Rachael Smith becomes a bat mitzvah! Rachael will read the maftir and Haftorah and help lead the prayer service.
