This week, we are celebrating our dedicated minyan leaders, captains, and regulars who provide a space for people to say kaddish or to have a few moments of connection and prayer at the end of each day. Join us as we honor the members of our community who keep our Zoom minyan going every evening! Our Friday night service begins at 6:00 p.m. and concludes around 6:50 p.m. This week Reb Josh will lead the davening and I will share a teaching.
Our service is designed to create a buffer between the work week and Shabbat rest. We aim to make the atmosphere like a family shabbat table complete with Candle Lighting, Blessing one another, Kiddush, and Motzei. Before and after the service we take time to check in with one another and share greetings (feel free to log on early). Our service has been abridged for ZOOM but includes familiar and new melodies, readings from the margins of the siddur, and some learning.
Shabbat Morning: Who Counts in the Book of Numbers?
In Hebrew, the name for this book of the Torah is Bamidbar, “In the Wilderness,” which highlights the Israelites’ 40 years of wandering. In English, it’s the Book of Numbers, taking its name from the census in this week’s parsha. We will explore the connection between these two ideas: Who counts in this long, complicated transition from Sinai to the Promised Land?
Our service begins at 10 a.m. in our sanctuary, and you can join us in person or on Livestream. Marvin Wolfert will read Torah, Sam Evans will read Haftorah, Reb Josh will lead the davening, and I will offer a teaching. Services will conclude around noon and will be followed by a kiddush luncheon.
May 25-27: Celebrating Shavuot
Join us Thursday night at 7 p.m. for our Tikkun Leil Shavuot, both in person and online. We will begin with a brief maariv service, followed by teaching sessions on a wide range of topics, and snack breaks to enjoy delicious dairy treats.
Our morning service for the first day of Shavuot will begin Friday at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary, and will include Hallel, Torah reading by Linda Dietrich and Ellie Sirk, Haftorah reading by Joe Doniger, and a teaching by Reb Josh.
The second day of Shavuot, which coincides with our regular Shabbat morning service, will incorporate reading the Book of Ruth and our Yizkor service. Please visit our Shavuot page for more details.
Shabbat shalom, Reb Lisa Feld
