On Sunday November 20 th Reb Josh and I, together with Elaine Matisoff participated in the annual Canton Interfaith Clergy Association Thanksgiving service (see below for a few pictures from that evening). Reb Josh and I will share some of what we offered that night at our service this Shabbat, music and teaching. Shabbat of Thanksgiving is a special weekend to express gratitude and relax into the winter holiday season.
Our Friday night service begins at 6:00 p.m. and concludes around 7:00 p.m. You can join us this week in person or on Zoom (link below).
After the death of his mother Sarah, Isaac finds his life partner, Rebecca, one of our matriarchs with a particularly compelling story of how she influenced the future of the covenant with Abraham. We will think together about Isaac’s story. How does he move on after his father almost sacrifices him on the altar? What do we learn from him about resilience and its limits?
Davening in the sanctuary begins at 10:00 a.m. (or join us on LiveControl or YouTube; links are below) and concludes around noon with kiddush luncheon. Join us for conversation, study and fellowship.
Lunch & Learn: Inclusivity and Exclusivity
My fall lunch and learn continues this (and every) Tuesday at noon. Our first topic is to compare texts on inclusivity and exclusivity in Judaism. Following up on my sermon from Kol Nidre, we will ask how Judaism holds conflicting perspectives on central issues and how we are to navigate that complexity. Who stood at Sinai? Class will be on Zoom.
Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Leonard Gordon
