In this week’s portion, we see Abraham set out on his world-changing journey with Sarah by his side. How do their personalities complement each other? What can they teach us about forming and strengthening our own relationships? Our Friday night service begins at 6:00 p.m. and concludes around 6:50 p.m. This week Reb Josh will be leading the davening and Reb Lisa will share a teaching.
Our service is designed to create a buffer between the work week and Shabbat rest. We aim to make the atmosphere like a family shabbat table complete with Candle Lighting, Blessing one another, Kiddush, Motzei and Angel Cards. Before and after the service we take time to check in with one another and share greetings (feel free to log on early). Our service has been abridged for ZOOM but includes familiar and new melodies, readings from the margins of the siddur, and some learning.
Parshat Lech Lecha begins on a surprising note: The hero of our story, Abraham, is not a young person setting out on a quest, but an older man, already on his way. What, then, is the significance of what he's being commanded to do? We will explore this question, and how the call received by Abraham can also be relevant to each of us today.
Our service begins at 10 a.m. in our sanctuary. Reb Josh will lead the davening and offer the teaching. Noah Beit-Aharon will be our Torah reader, and Marci Shaw will read Haftorah. Services conclude around noon, and are followed by kiddush luncheon. You can also join us on live stream (links below).
Please remember: Going forward, Starbucks Shabbat will begin at 9am,
The first Shabbat of every month offers an opportunity to celebrate our simchas for the coming month together. This Simcha Shabbat, our kiddush is underwritten by Harriet Burak in honor of her daughter Michelle Langmead’s birthday, with additional sponsorship from Donna and Bob Blumenthal in honor of their 50th anniversary. We will also have an opportunity for others to share their upcoming joys with the community.
Share your family's celebratory moments with the congregation by helping sponsor kiddush, here.
