Kabbalat Shabbat: Friday Night ZOOM! Special Guest
OUT OF ABUNDANCE OF CAUTION, ALL SERVICES THIS WEEKEND WILL BE ON ZOOM, ONLY. PLEASE STAY SAFE AND WARM AT HOME.
Services this Friday night will be led by Reb Josh, Reb Lisa and Hebrew College rabbinical student, Sam Tygiel. Services begin 6:00 p.m. and can be followed byZOOM.
From Reb Josh: In honor of Shabbat Shira, join musician and myth-weaver Sam Tygiel for a special Friday night service exploring the great power that so often lies dormant in Jewish liturgy and song. “Reish Lakish teaches: The gates of the garden of Eden are opened for anyone who answers “amen” with all of their strength.” (BT Shabbat 119b) What would it look like to approach our prayer, believing that this was possible? What are the musical tools that we can use to attempt to sing with all of our strength? How might singing in this way help us connect more deeply to our true selves and uncover our innate connection to the Divine?
Services this shabbat morning will be on ZOOM(rather than Livestream) so we can hear from our HIAS shabbat speaker, Chelsea Berlin. The Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society is a leading advocate for refugees and immigrants. On this shabbat we will learn about the history and current work of HIAS and how we can help.
This shabbat Reb Josh will lead the davening. Linda Dietrich will read torah (which includes the Song at the Sea). Carol Turkowitz will chant haftorah. During the service we will mark Simcha Shabbat for February.
Service begins at 10:00 am. Join us for conversation, study and fellowship on ZOOM.
Lunch & Learn - Winter: Texts on Community Building
My Winter lunch and learn continues this week on Wednesday at noon. New students are always welcome. In coming months we will explore texts on the building of community and use that as a starting point for conversations about God, social responsibility and the meaning of Jewish community. Class will be onZOOM.
