The “Great Shabbat” before Passover

Kabbalat Shabbat: In Person Services with our Students

Our Friday night service begins at 6:00 p.m. and concludes around 7:00 p.m. Join us in person in the sanctuary for a service led by Reb Josh, Michelle Langmead and our students. Following services there is a pre-Passover shabbat dinner. Let us feed you on this shabbat before the Seder and enjoy a pasta dinner. This shabbat is named Shabbat HaGadol, the "great shabbat” when we approach the holiday that celebrates God’s intervention in history of create the Jewish people as a nation. Stay Safe & Keep Others Safe

Many of us will be traveling over the holidays or siting indoors for large seder meals. When we join together on shabbat morning and throughout the holiday of Passover, for in person services, staying safe becomes even more important. We advise wearing a mask and making
sure you are current in your booster shots. If you are feeling sick, please stay at home, we will miss you.

Shabbat Morning: The spiritual meaning of HAMETZ

Services this Shabbat morning will be live in the Sanctuary and on Livestream and YouTube. Davening in the sanctuary begins at 10:00 a.m. and concludes around noon with kiddush luncheon. Join us in person for conversation, study and fellowship, or join us online.

Reb Josh will be leading the davening and offering our teaching. In the torah reading we learn about cleansing the altar as we prepare for cleaning our homes and the search for hametz. What is the spiritual meaning of house cleaning? What might we think about as we remove Hametz from our homes? Joe Doniger will read the special haftorah for Shabbat HaGadol (the "great shabbat” preceding Passover).

Hametz sale and Feast of Freedom Haggadot

Many Jews practice the custom of appointing their rabbi to sell their Hametz for the duration of Passover, and B’nai Tikvah is proud to uphold this tradition.
If you wish to sell your Hametz, please either fill out the online form or download a PDF form. It is also customary to make a gift to the Rabbi's Discretionary Fund in gratitude.
Both the form and donation may be completed online or printed
and brought/mailed to the office.
The deadline is April 4th.

We also have 5 copies left of the Feast of Freedom Haggadah available in the office. First come, first serve.

Community Family Seder

B'nai Tikvah will be hosting a Community Family Seder for the second night of Passover. During the service, our clergy will bring informative, interesting,
nuanced teachings to enhance the experience for all.
Please join us the evening of April 6th as we celebrate together with our friends, their extended family and other community members. All are welcome!
