Join us Thursday night at 7 p.m. for our Tikkun Leil Shavuot, both in person and online. We will begin with a brief maariv service, followed by teaching sessions on a wide range of topics, and snack breaks to enjoy delicious dairy treats. (In Person | ZOOM)
During the morning service, we celebrate the revelation at Mount Sinai. Our Friday morning service for the first day of Shavuot will begin at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary, and will include Hallel, Torah reading by Linda Dietrich and Ellie Sirk, Haftorah reading by Joe Doniger, and a teaching by Reb Josh, followed by kiddush. (In Person | LiveControl | YouTube)
Because Shabbat coincides with the second day of Shavuot, our Friday night service will be a little different. Rather than our usual Kabbalat Shabbat, we will have festive songs and readings tied to the holiday and learn how our celebration of this holiday has changed over time. Our Friday night service begins at 6:00 p.m. and concludes around 6:50 p.m. This week Reb Josh will lead the davening and I will share a teaching.
Our service is designed to create a buffer between the work week and Shabbat rest. We aim to make the atmosphere like a family shabbat table complete with Candle Lighting, Blessing one another, Kiddush, and Motzei. Before and after the service we take time to check in with one another and share greetings (feel free to log on early). Our service has been abridged for ZOOM but includes familiar and new melodies, readings from the margins of the siddur, and some learning.
Shabbat Morning: Shavuot and Yizkor
The second day of Shavuot, which coincides with our regular Shabbat morning service, will incorporate reading the Book of Ruth and our Yizkor service. Our service begins at 10 a.m. in our sanctuary, and you can join us in person or on Livestream. Reb Josh and I will lead the davening, Dena Kaufman will lead Hallel, Reb Josh and Ellie Sirk will read Torah, Heidi Wortzman will read Haftorah, and I will offer a teaching. Services will conclude around noon and will be followed by a kiddush luncheon.
