Farewell to Rabbi Schreiber We invite you for a special musical Kabbalat Shabbat on Rabbi Joshua Schreiber's last day at B'nai Tikvah! Over the past year, Rabbi Schreiber has shared his wisdom and kindness, his musical talents, and his passion for movement as a spiritual path with our community. Come out to thank Rabbi Schreiber for his year of service as our Rabbinic/Cantorial Intern and wish him much success in the future. Rabbi Schreiber and I will lead the davening, and Rabbi Schreiber will share a teaching.
Our Friday night service begins at 6:00 p.m. and will conclude around 7:00 p.m. Our service is designed to create a buffer between the work week and Shabbat rest. We aim to make the atmosphere like a family shabbat table complete with Candle Lighting, Blessing one another, Kiddush, and Motzei. Our service has been abridged for ZOOM but includes familiar and new melodies, readings from the margins of the siddur, and some learning. Congregants and guests are also invited to stay for a dairy oneg Shabbat after the service.
Shabbat Morning:
Patriotic Songs
This week we read a double parsha, Hukkat and Balak (Numbers 19:1-25:9), which runs the gamut from the tragedy of Miriam and Aaron’s deaths to the comedy of Balaam’s talking donkey and the failed attempt to curse the Israelites.
Our service begins at 10 a.m. in our sanctuary, and you can join us in person or on Livestream. I will lead the davening and read Torah and Marvin Wolfert will read Haftorah. In lieu of a sermon, we will follow our July 4th weekend tradition of singing patriotic songs and the anthems of each branch of the armed forces. Services will conclude around noon and will be followed by a Kiddush luncheon sponsored by Mona and Phil Rosen in honor of Phil’s 75th birthday, with additional contributions from Jane Silver in honor of Marc’s birthday.
Shabbat Shalom, Rabbi Lisa Feld
