Services for the coming weeks will be hybrid, in the Sanctuary and on line, and they begin at 10:00 a.m. This week we read parshat Vayechi, the conclusion of the book of Genesis, where Jacob blesses each of his children offering reflections on their lives and futures. According to an oft-quoted Midrash (rabbinic commentary) Jacob wanted to tell his children when the exile of the Jewish people would end and the messianic era would begin, but angels prevented him from revealing those details. This raises a question about our legacy for future generations. How much information do we share? What concerns or predictions should we keep to ourselves? What is our role as we prepare to welcome a new generation into leadership? I also want to prepare us for the upcoming holiday week. How should we as Jews relate to Christmas and the secular New Year? What is distinctly Jewish about the story of the birth of Jesus? Join us and bring your questions.

Adult Ed Course with Reb Nikki Thursday, May 1st 8:00p to 9:00p What are we talking about when we talk about "Israel"?
The name "Israel" in Jewish texts can have many meanings: the person, the nation, the land, and the modern state. In this six-session class, we will be examining different uses of the name "Israel" by looking at sources ranging from the Torah to modern thinkers. Together, we will gain deeper understanding into its meaning by looking at the connections between and teasing apart the differences among the range of meanings of the word, and be able to discern what we are talking about when we talk about Israel.
