Our service is on ZOOM and begins at 6:00 p.m. Join us for candle lighting, blessing one another, kiddush, motzei and invoking an angel to bless us during the week ahead. We are a people who remember our past and every year we tell a story of slavery and liberation at Passover. Part of that story, which we read in synagogue this shabbat (Parshat Bo), tells of a night when all the children of Israel had to stay in their homes as a plague ravaged Egypt. Putting blood on the doorposts was the ancient form of vaccination. As we reflect on the ongoing Pandemic and our needs to stay connected as we also hunker down, this story takes on new meaning. What will liberation feel like? Friday night we will talk together about the signs of freedom. .

Parshat Bo Shabbat Morning: The Perfect Jewish Ritual
Services for the coming weeks will be hybrid, in the Sanctuary and on line, and they begin at 10:00 a.m. Our next interactive Zoom service on shabbat morning will be next week, January 15th, when we will welcome Kayla Ship from Jerusalem as she teaches us about some of her favorite places to visit in Israel. Chapter 12 of Exodus, the center of this week’s torah reading, instructs us in how to remember the night of liberation from Egypt at our annual Passover seders. The chapter includes instructions about what to wear, what to eat and how to engage children when we gather to remember the night of freedom. In a torah focused on rituals in the Temple/Tabernacle, the seder is home based and lay led. It is a night of discussion engaging friendship circles meeting without professional leadership. As we read chapter 12 we can think about reimagining the balance between synagogue-based and home-based Judaism. How do we stay connected and engaged during COVID? What can we hope for on the other end?
