On this shabbat, our prayers and hopes are focused both on Ukraine which continues to suffer from invasion and attack, and Israel, where a wave of violence took place this past week. This shabbat we mark a new month of Nisan, and all three religions that are rooted in the land of Israel are celebrating major festivals: Passover, Ramadan and Easter. Those killed in Israel were Christians, Jews and Druze. They also included recent immigrants from Ukraine. Israel's diversity was manifest in a time of mourning. May we see a turning from the violence and revenge towards a renewed commitment to peace and security for all. We join the families of those who mourn in sorrow for their loss.
Kabbalat Shabbat: Celebrating a new month and the start of spring.
The month of Nisan, delayed this year by the addition of a second, leap month of Adar, is finally upon us and with it the start of springtime. This season reminds us all that after the bleak landscape of winter, the colors of spring arrive. Life and beauty bloom where there had been barren tree limbs. Our Friday night service is built around themes of love and renewal, epitomized by the Song of Songs with its promise that song will once again be heard throughout the land. At tonight’s service we will focus on excerpts from this biblical book that reminds us of one of Passover’s main themes: springtime and new hope.
Our service is on ZOOM and begins at 6:00 p.m. Join us for candle lighting, blessing one another, kiddush, motzei and invoking an angel to bless us during the week ahead. As we begin the month of April we will also take a moment to celebrate our landmark moments and accomplishments. Please come prepared to share anniversaries, birthdays, successes and other happy moments.

Shabbat Morning: Shabbat HaHodesh and Parshat Tazria
As the Sanctuary is undergoing a transformation we will be holding our services in the Social Hall and be seated in the round. Please join us in person and through Zoom and YouTube livestream for our services during coming weeks.
This is a special shabbat when, in addition to our weekly parashah, we rmark Rosh Hodesh, the beginning of the month of Nisan, the first month in the biblical counting of months. In addition to reading from Tazria, we will read the Seder story from the book of Exodus.
Our rabbinic intern, Lisa Feld, will offer a teaching about the Seder and the Haggadah, with ideas for conversation and rituals at your Passover table.
