This Coming Shabbat: Anticipatory Time. March 25, 2022
Supporting Ukrainian Refugees On this shabbat we continue to pray for peace in Ukraine and safety for those who have lost their homes. Many of you have asked how we as individuals and as a community can help.
(1) We can be advocates. You could raise your voice on social media and/or by writing to or calling your elected officials to support more action to help address the humanitarian crisis brewing in Ukraine and the surrounding nations who are welcoming refugees.
(2) We can donate: There are many options which our Social Action committee is gathering and sharing, but I want to highlight two: The Joint Distribution Committee; and Masorti Olami (the world-wide organization of Conservative movement communities).
Kabbalat Shabbat: Preparing for the month of Nisan and Passover
Last shabbat, Lori Lefkovitz shared a dvar torah about the weeks between Purim and Passover as a special time, an anticipatory time of planning, preparing our homes, and organizing our Seders. Tonight we will talk about that process and how we can make appropriate choices during our third Passover under COVID constraints. At our seders we will also be thinking about war and peace, and the many challenges that weigh on our minds (and bodies). How can we taste liberation in the midst of so many concerns? Join us for conversation and sharing.
Our service is on ZOOM and begins at 6:00 p.m. Join us for candle lighting, blessing one another, kiddush, motzei and invoking an angel to bless us during the week ahead. In keeping with the spirit of the celebratory month of Adar I-II we will also take a moment to celebrate our landmark moments and accomplishments. Please come prepared to share anniversaries, birthdays, successes and other happy moments. Hebrew College Rabbinic Intern Lisa Feld will lead services and offer our teaching.

As the Sanctuary is undergoing a transformation we will be holding our services in the Social Hall and begin seating in the round. Please join us in person and through Zoom and livestream via Youtube for our services during coming weeks.
This is a special shabbat when, in addition to our weekly parashah, we recall how in Temple times, people would prepare themselves physically and spiritually for the pilgrimage festival of Passover. How did the people make sure that they were ritually pure and able to enter the Temple precincts? Our second torah reading will focus on the mysteriious ritual of the Red Heifer that stood at the center of the purification process.
We will also announce the new month of Nisan, the month of springtime and renewal, which begins next shabbat.
