This Coming Shabbat: Praying for Peace. March 11, 2022
A Prayer for Ukraine
These past two weeks we have been moved and horrified by the images coming to us from Ukraine. We have seen all too familiar images of children being carried by their mothers across borders and of hospitals and other civilian institutions being targeted for purposes of inspiring terror. In a stunning image, a woman saved by a Ukrainian family during the Holocaust, welcomed the grandchildren of the woman who saved her life to Israel and safety. At our shabbat services we will include prayers for the people of Ukraine and for our government to act with wisdom and clarity, inspired by our commitment to preserve life. We pray for those who are suffering, grieving and afraid. May the week ahead see a turning towards peace.
Kabbalat Shabbat: Why do we stand?
Our service is on ZOOM and begins at 6:00 p.m. Join us for candle lighting, blessing one another, kiddush, motzei and invoking an angel to bless us during the week ahead. In keeping with the spirit of the celebratory month of Adar I-II we will also take a moment to celebrate our landmark moments and accomplishments. Please come prepared to share anniversaries, birthdays, successes and other happy moments.
Standing and sitting during services can sometimes seem arbitrary. What are the rules? How does standing for the end of Lecha Dodi stand out? What about standing for the Amidah? Your questions will be answered this shabbat.. In an anxious time, join us as we welcome a shabbat of rest and reflection.
Services this shabbat being at 10 a.m. and are on Zoom as we welcome Dr. Norbert Goldfield, founder of HEALING ACROSS THE DIVIDES talking on, “Especially Now: The Long Game of Peace in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict – Through Health.” Please join us, the talk will begin around 11:20 a.m. HEALING ACROSS THE DIVIDES provides a hopeful model for Israeli-Palestinian collaboration supported by American Jews.
