Social Action / Social Justice
With the holiday of Purim upon us, we reflect on the story of Queen Esther and how she fought back when Haman threatened to murder all the Jews. Sadly, in 2023 we are still facing modern day "Hamans"..those who discriminate, and those who seek total power and control. Hate crimes towards the African American, Jewish, LQBTQ+ and Asian communities are on the rise. The Purim story can inspire us to bring social justice to the forefront of our celebrations. Here are a few Jewish advocacy groups (there are many others) to which you can bring a matter of concern: American Jewish Committee (AJC) AJC.org Anti Defamation League (ADL) ADL.org HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) HIAS.org Jewish Earth Alliance contact@jewishearthalliance.org Jalsa (Jewish Alliance for Law and Social Action) jalsa.org
Working together, we are already making a difference, and we will continue to do even more. Chag Purim Sameach! Thank you for choosing justice. Phyl Hewson, Chair, Social Action/ Social Justice Committee
